A break in heavy monsoon rains reveals the misty entrance to a small Shinto shrine in the southern part of Japan’s northern Tohoku region. The ancient torii gate is of a piece with the forest that surrounds it, and a wave of low-lying mist nurtures the moss that lends this scene a certain Ghibli-esque feeling.
