The bar and lounge of an abandoned resort hotel on a remote island once dubbed the “Hawaii of Japan.” As international travel became increasingly accessible to working people in the 1990s, and with the real Hawaii just a few hours further in the same direction, tourism saw a sharp decline and the island struggled to reinvent itself. This resort now sits in a state of severe decay and abandonment.
