灰 / 廃 (Hai)

Noun: grey, ash, ashen
Noun: grey matter
Noun: ruins, abandoned building, extinction
Adjective: dilapidated, desolate, neglected
Verb: to become obsolete, to discontinue

Although the Japanese word haikyo means “ruins”, it also refers to the practice of visiting long-abandoned or derelict sites. Some do it for adventure, others to take photos, or just to bask in the stillness and the atmosphere of old memories.

Whatever their motivations, haikyo enthusiasts take care not to disturb their surroundings and tend toward secrecy where location is concerned. For this reason, detailed locations for photos in this collection are not given, nor are they available upon request. Thank you for your understanding.
