Twin kakemono (hanging scrolls) on display in a traditional townhouse in rural Japan. The two large characters, each framed by a shoji sliding door, stand for the traditional Confucian virtues of filial piety and loyalty. The scrolls hang in a tatami room - a space usually reserved for receiving guests, sleeping, or other aspects of domestic life.
