Monks' Dormitory (Daruma)
The scene inside a dormitory for Buddhist monks in an abandoned temple complex. The painting on the sliding door was done by hand in 1976. It depicts seven Daruma – the hollow, round dolls modelled after Bodhidharma, the monk who brought Buddhism from India to China and founded the Zen school in the sixth century.
